Raw Bio-Oil Upgrading

Rapid progress in hydrodeoxygenating (HDO) bio-oils with little catalytic coking has been made since this project was initiated in 2006. Our developed HDO process will be patented and developed into a continuous process with the product tested as a blended fuel and as a biocrude to be cracked by petroleum FCC processes.

Cracking of the pyrolysis vapor as it exits the reactor can result in reduction of the oxygen of the condensed bio-oil product; this reduction in oxygen content is essential for use of bio-oil as a transportation fuel.
